PIEDRAS BLANCAS
Behind the tit gates was a 40's gas station. It stood between Highway 1 and the Pacific Ocean complete with house, water tower, and succulent garden. |
The one car garage was Peter's shop. The former hot dog stand was Phoebe's studio. |
In 1969 when Peter first moved in, 40' of back yard separated the house from the Pacific. | ||
By 1982 the back yard looked like this. |
The fishing was great and Peter didn't want to leave. But by 1985 Phoebe wasn't finding the ocean view as romantic as it used to be. |
They suspected they might have to move soon. |
The Pacific is not always pacific. The surf came up. |
In the morning pieces of their former residence were scattered all the way to the lighthouse. |
